Introduction to Fantasy
Three great fantasy to read for anyone starting out.
Firstly, a dark enchantment blights the land in the award winning Uprooted - a enthralling, mythic fantasy by Naomi Novik (based on polish mythology, we love it)
Many have been lost to the Wood and none return unchanged. The villagers depend on an ageless wizard, the Dragon, to protect them from the forest's dark magic. However, his help comes at a terrible price. One young village woman must serve him for ten years, leaving all they value behind. Agnieszka fears her dearest friend Kasia will be picked at the next choosing, for she's everything Agnieszka is not - beautiful, graceful and brave. Yet when the Dragon comes, it's not Kasia he takes.
We have the irreplaceable Pratchett with Guards Guards (one of the best and classic Discworld books)
It was the usual Ankh-Morpork mob in times of crisis; half of them were here to complain, a quarter of them were here to watch the other half, and the remainder were here to rob, importune or sell hotdogs to the rest.'Insurrection is in the air in the city of Ankh-Morpork. The Haves and Have-Nots are about to fall out all over again. Captain Sam Vimes of the city's ramshackle Night Watch is used to this. It's enough to drive a man to drink. Well, to drink more.
Lastly we have Legend by David Gemmell
The fortress was once the Drenai's greatest stronghold - now it will be their final battleground. And Druss their last hope. Legend is the classic Drenai novel from the British master of heroic fantasy, a powerful tale of courage and sacrifice in the face of overwhelming odds.
