Five years ago, there were no easily available dyslexic friendly books for adults at all – let alone finding any in a bookshop or even a library. Let that sink in for a moment. Bonkers isn’t it. We at BOTH are a micro indie press, and with the help of so many people have changed the landscape for many adults with dyslexia. We couldn’t do it without these amazing people, from our longstanding designer, Chrissey Harrison, whom I started this quest, as well as Jo Hall, who’s been a brilliant editor, and to those who helped fund our first Kickstarter to get us started. Not to mention, the dedicated indie booksellers who took our books and interacted with the very people we wanted to help.
The landscape of dyslexic friendly books has changed, and hopefully still continue to grow. We have helped pioneer an entirely new publishing sector, with amazing publishers such as Bloomsbury now invested in bringing their own titles into a dyslexic friendly format. Between us at BOTH Press and Bloomsbury we have published over 40 adult dyslexia friendly titles, a number which is continuously growing it has been an amazing journey.
This leads us nicely to this collection of short stories and it is with great delight that we are partnering up with Bloomsbury on this book, and on a joint Campaign for Reading For Pleasure For Adult Dyslexia
So that enough from me – let’s hear what our author say and celebrate the continuing of publishing dyslexic friendly books for adults for years come. – Dr. Alistair J.P Sims Founder of BOTH Press
About these short stories by Steven Savile – author of Sherlock Holmes and the Four Kings of Sweden
Stories are magic in disguise. They slip past our defences when the world feels too heavy, offering us new eyes to see through and different hearts to feel with. In just a few pages, a story can make you laugh out loud on a crowded train, hold your breath in suspense, or discover something unexpected about yourself. These classic tales have survived because they capture something essential about being human—our fears, hopes, dreams, and the messy, beautiful way we stumble through life. They prove that the most powerful ideas don’t need complicated language or endless pages. Sometimes the sharpest insights come in the smallest packages. Whether you’re reading for escape, understanding, or pure joy, these stories are here to remind you that every reader deserves to lose themselves in a good tale. The adventure begins as soon as you turn the page.
